CARL at Conferences (Australia 2023)

Researchers from the CARL I and II cohorts had a fantastic showing at the WFC Congress in the Gold Coast and CARF Researcher’s Day in Brisbane, October 2023!

At WFC, three CARL I Alumni gave incredible invited presentations - Andreas Eklund on patient-centered maintenance care, Katie de Luca on chiropractic and healthy aging, and Katherine Pohlman on the evidence about patient safety. CARL researchers gave a total of 13 platform presentations, sharing their work with the chiropractic profession.

CARL also scooped three WFC awards! Martha Funabashi, CARL I Alumni, won the Scott Haldeman Award for Outstanding Research for her work on defining adverse events. Amy Miller, CARL II Fellow, won the IBCE Poster Awards Runner Up Prize for her work on the CRUNch practice-based research network. Luana Nyirö, CARL II Fellow, won the WFC European Region Poster Prize for her study on thoracic spinal manipulation forces.

At CARF Researcher’s Day, CARL I Alumni were all over the program with a career pathway talk from Katie de Luca, and workshops from Martha Funabashi, Katherine Pohlman, and Andreas Eklund. Michael Swain and Katherine Pohlman also gave pitches for a small grant round, with Michael winning AUD $6,000 for a project adapting and validating English versions of adolescent spine pain questionnaires. One of our wonderful CARL mentors, Jan Hartvigsen, also shared his thoughts about research mentorship.

The CARL community could not be more proud of the amazing achievements of its Alumni and current Fellows!
